Since 1984, Bart Spanhove has been principal professor of recorder at the Lemmensinstituut, a performing arts academy in Leuven, Belgium. Photograph of Bart Spanhove holding a recorder He is a playing member of the world famous recorder ensemble, Flanders Recorder Quartet. With them he has made 22 CDs, and has played and given numerous master classes and lecture demonstrations all over Europe, Asia, South Africa, and the Americas.

He has published The finishing touch of ensemble playing (Alamire 2000, Moeck 2002 and translations in Chinese and German) and The Recorder Music of Frans Geysen (Mieroprint 2010). Now he is doing research about the art of practicing and the technique of recorder playing. His ideas will be published in a series of books (2013-2023).

Bart is invited as teacher and jury member in international competitions around the world. He is president of the international recorder competition in Mechelen, Belgium.

He is married to Ingrid De Witte, a traverso player and counsellor, and father of 2 sons: Hannes (21) and Reindert (18).
